AE apartment

… coing soon

AE apartment

AE Apartament represents AM+PM’s foray into the hospitality sector. It came as a natural choice to embark on this new adventure in our hometown - Cluj-Napoca. Cluj, the unofficial capital of Transylvania, is one of the most history rooted, fastest growing and interesting cities in Romania!  It is home to universities, world leading companies, some of the best coffee and food in Eastern Europe, vibrant nightlife and loads of historical landmarks dating back to Saxon and Hungarian rule and even further to ancient Roman times.

Situated in what used to be one of the two jewish quarters of pre WWII Cluj-Napoca, the typical early 20th century building housing AE Apartment is located on 15th Albert Einstein street, just a few steps away from Union Square.

The award winning transformation of this early 20th century, 35 sqm one room apartment is marked by ateliercetrei’s ingenuity. The result is not one, but two studio apartments defined by the design studio’s ‘thinking outside the box!’ Working on such a small space meant paying attention to each and every detail, tailoring everything to the size and shape of this very particular space as well as using one of AM+PM’s smallest and most versatile objects - MaNoOtTa! As such the apartment is packed with bespoke everything - loft bed steel structures, pieces of furniture, doors, shower screen and even cork wall paneling - developed by ateliercetrei architects in close collaboration with sculptor Florin Magda and AM+PM’s artisans.

Wishing you a very cork welcome!

Guests are welcomed by AE Apartment’s very small - yet very special - vestibule defined by its 4 filomuro doors covered, for both acoustic and aesthetic reasons, in cork tiles. The result is a cork ‘punch’ that packs some cool white door handles announcing the spatial structure: two studio apartments with loft beds sharing one cool green bathroom.

Two studio apartments, the same cool green vibe!

Two custom-made steel loft beds each covers an area dedicated to the kitchen. The latter is adapted to the dimensions of each room. In the more generous one, an island kitchen - covered in ceramic tiles - is configured, surrounded by a storage area and a study. The loft bed ladder connects and supports the desk and bench which becomes the first step of the ladder. In the less generous room, the kitchen furniture is defined by a birch veneer backsplash and a ceramic tiles countertop. The loft bed ladder supports, with the help of the wardrobe, the bench. A set of MaNoOtTa take on the roles for which they were created - coffee/tea tables and stools - being able to serve several functional scenarios with help from their accessories - cork pillows and trays. The materials, textures, colors, details and formal language unite, but at the same time differentiate the two studio apartments.

Both apartments are south oriented so there is no small amount of sunshine and sunlight flooding the rooms! A balcony covered in vine runs alongside the south facade of the apartment and invites one to sunbathe and enjoy the tranquility of the building’s courtyard!

For a better understanding of the spatial structure please consult the drawing placed bellow.

One bathroom to rule them all!

Handpicked Rainforest Green marble floor tiles - carefully arranged one alongside another - contrast the perfect imperfections of the white handmade ceramic tiles. This contrast is complemented by the bespoke fluted glass shower screen and wall paneling with a custom mirror inlay for a relaxed and relaxing bathroom experience. Spice thing up with AM+PM signature amenities!

The details are not the details. They make the design.

The meeting place of art, design and architecture.

The loft bed steel structures and the shower screen were designed by ateliercetrei architects and developed alongside sculptor Florin Magda from Hangar F.

Ceramic wall art was conceived by Anamaria Moldovan with and based on the work of local artist Vanessa Singenzia of UAU Ceramics.

The cool oak cylinders by local designer Radu Abraham support the two bespoke benches conceived by ateliercetrei architects - one for each studio apartment.

Welcome to the beginning of something awesome!

They say big things come in small packages… So we - Paul and Anamaria Moldovan of AM+PM - worked alongside ateliercetrei architects, local artists and artisans to imagine, design, test and carefully transform this mini space - only 35 sqm of heated floor - into a BIG hospitality experience! To achieve this, no detail was left behind and to make sure of that we sometimes rolled up our sleeves and did the job ourselves! Our passion and drive for interior architecture, objects, design, art and ultimately for traveling fueled this process for almost two years - that’s how long it took, all in all, to get the job done! Welcome to the beginning of something awesome! Sleep, refresh, get to know our amazing city and, why not, repeat!

For sleeping Our most generous studio apartment fits two adults while our smallest one fits just one. The bespoke loft beds feature a long double and a long single ultra-comfortable mattresses, European cotton sheets, cosy duvets and fluffy pillows. The windows open towards an ultra quiet courtyard and, for the late night sleepers, are fitted with blinds that help extend the morning into noon!

For refreshing Our bathroom packs a spacious rain shower, a large drop shaped mirror, huge and soft towels, toilet - of course! and AM+PM style amenities!

For fun Ultrafast, unlimited, free wifi, lounge areas in both studio apartments, a study in the more generous one, fully functional kitchens and a laid back balcony for sunbathing and what not!
